Which Dress For Me?
Congratulations on your engagement!
You’ve found ‘the one’ in a man, and now to ‘the one’ in a dress! But which gown will suit your figure the best? The following are a few common styles of wedding gowns and which figure it suits best...

The Full Skirt/Ballgown:
The ultimate fairytale wedding gown. The full skirt gown will make any bride look and feel like a princess. This gown will suit a bride with a bigger bust as the fuller skirt will balance it out. If you are petite, this dress may over-shadow you and you may ‘disappear’ into it. If you are a smaller busted bride, take note of how full the skirt is. The fuller the skirt, the more unbalanced you may look. If you have wider hips this dress may be a blessing as it can cover them, but it could also over-emphasise them. Different styles of the “ballgown” will prove for different results.

The A-Line Gown:
The A-Line gown is certainly one of the most popular choices for brides. It hugs close to the body and is perfect for the bride with wider hips. The A-Line Gown is a fitted bodice with a skirt which splays out into the shape of an ‘A’. This gown will emphasise your waist, so for fuller bodied brides who like this style, look into having a fantastic corset built into the dress. This dress is also great for the bride with a smaller bust as it will draw some attention to it as it will hug closely.

The Column Gown:
The column gown has straight seams. This dress ‘falls’ from the bust and hugs the figure as it hits the bust, waist and hips on the way down. This gown is best suited to taller woman and the petite bride as it will highlight the flattering areas. As the column gown hugs key areas of the body, if you have wider hips or areas you wish to cover, this style may not be best suited to you.

The Fishtail Gown:
The fishtail gown is a wonderful figure hugging gown. It highly emphasises the bust, waist and hips and splays out from the knee like a fishtail/mermaid tail. It will suit a well proportioned, hour glass bride as well as petite and fuller figured bride, as long as your proportions are even. If they are not, then it will highlight this and make you look top or bottom heavy. This is another gown which would suit having a corset built in to emphasise the waist that little bit more.

The Empire Gown:
A soft, romantic style, the empire gown is tight at the bust, gathers under then simply drops to the floor. This style is fantastic for hiding imperfections in your figure. This style will also make you look taller due to its long lines. An Empire gown with an A-Line ‘skirt’ will hide any imperfections perfectly, while an Empire gown with a column ‘skirt’ will highlight the bust and other desired areas. If you want to show off your figure, this dress may not be best suited to you.
