Edible Wedding Favours - New Trends For 2011

They say the way to a mans heart is through his stomach, the same can be said for wedding guests.

Weddings can be expensive and the last thing you want to do is waste money on small trinkets only to have them thrown away. Edible wedding favours are not new by any means, in many cultures it is tradition to give each guest 5 sugar coated almonds representing happiness, health, wealth, children and a long life.

With a new year comes some wonderful new wedding trends and here are a few new takes on edible wedding favours! So it's out with the almonds and in with the new!

Let’s start with my favourite trend this year -

Cake In A Jar

This is the most beautiful, homely and elegant wedding favour I have seen in a very long time. Cake in a jar looks so simple, but at the same time has a complexity about it that will leave your guests gushing.

Pair it with a beautiful ribbon and an antique silver spoon and you will have your guests talking for months!

This amazing cake in a jar is from the fabulous Sweet Bloom Cakes

Cake Pops

Made famous by the beautiful book and bakery Bakerella these cake pops are not only yummy but also make a statement! your guests will love biting into these little morsels. Tie them with some ribbon to make a little bouquet or use some foam in a small box to stand them up! There are so many things you can do with cakepops and they are something that has rarely been seen before and your guests will love them!

Cookies

Cookies have been around for a long time now, I had cookies at my wedding 4 years ago. Although cookies have come a long way even in 4 years! Gone are the days of simple sugar cookies in a cello bag. These amazing cookies are an example of the little pieces of art you can use to thank your guests. So amazing, I wouldn’t want to eat them!

Macarons

These beautiful delicate french sweets are so popular right now, I am seeing them pop up in patisseries everywhere.

Macarons are made from very basic ingredients - egg whites, almond meal and sugar however mastering the art of baking these little wonders can take a lot of practice. A beautiful light macron is like biting into a piece of heaven.

Sweet Bloom Cakes have decorated these macarons and created a beautiful candy bar. Leave some small boxes or clear bags and ribbon and allow your guests to select a few to take home.

If you have a talented patisserie they could even create some Macaron pops! These look beautiful and would be a feature on any place setting or candy bar.

Feeling adventurous and want to create them yourself? Check out Bakerella for a step by step guide.

Candy Bar

Candy bars have been on the wedding circuit for quiet a number of years now and are becoming more and more popular. Now brides are finding ways to take them to a different level.

Creating a cake bar or combining cakes and sweet treats with your favourite candy are beautiful ways to thank you guests.

This beautiful sweets table was created by Candy Soirees and combined beautiful cakes, cakepops and candy to create an amazing centrepiece.

No matter what favours you choose it has been proven time and time again, you can never go wrong with food!
