Most of the ones I've been to have had one.

DH's Aunt made ours and it had a tiny little ring pillow with a fake diamond ring on it. I loved it!

Most of the ones I have been to have had them.

I didn't really have an engagement party as such, just dinner with both sides. I made a mudcake for dessert, which doubled as our engagement cake.

We won't be having a cake. We spoke about this the other night, we will be having finger food served throughout the night. So we don't think it is necessary!

All the parties I have been to have and we did. Generally there is a cake cutting of sorts with speeches. But Im sure it would matter if you didnt!

Interesting... I've only been to one official engagement party & I don't believe there was one... but that was in the UK and the traditions can be quite different. I hadn't even thought of having a cake!
