Hmmm, this looks good too... Cropley House $109 a head and from what I can tell, I'll have to arrange Flowers for bridal party, clothing, photography... Don't need bridal cars, I'm not there to show off a fancy car! I think DF wants to use his little beast anyway... I think that's it... The list of inclusions is there, but I'm not sure if $109 a head is for the "no more to pay package" or "the complete package"...

Ceremonies are $200 but if we have the reception there as well, they waive the $200...

Any thoughts??

Hi Widget, never been to Cropley House however have been to Chapel Hill a number of times (will be there again in August). Can't really comment on the cost of Cropley vs Chapel Hill but whilst both offer ceremony and reception facilities they will individually evoke a different feel - one being a city wedding and the other a country wedding.

Positives for Chapel Hill (from my observations) The actual on site Chapel is very nice for the ceremony and features some amazing stained glass. Photographs can be taken on the property, they offer accommodation on the property which can save on time and car hire (I know you mentioned you don't need bridal cars). Your guests don't have to travel from one place to the other.

The people at Chapel Hill have been very nice and were accommodating on the previous occasions I have been there.

I think you really need to work out what you can afford/wish to spend, make a budget and then look at venues which fall within your budget range. Once you have selected these venues go and inspect the venues and see if it suits and get a feel of how the management's attitude is - i.e. nothing is too much trouble or everything is a hassle, as this WILL impact on your vision of the reception.

Sorry I wasn't able to answer your direct question, but I hope this helped somewhat.

I'd love a country wedding as both DF and I are from the country.

Trying to do a rough comparison between both places I'm thinking Cropley house will be cheaper.

Chapel Hill is $695 for the venue and $70 a head for the reception, I'd have to hire entertainment on top. At over 70 guests (I've tried to drop it) and supplying alcohol ourselves and a few other things.

Actually, without knowing the costs for a DJ and MC I'm guessing them to be around the same price...

Both are well over what I was thinking for a budget...

Ok, I think I may have gotten the list down to 60 - but I haven't spoken to DF about it yet!

Hi Widget, I wanted my wedding to be at Chapel Hill, its so beautiful, but out of our price range. I haven't been there, but I have been to a wedding at Cropley house. It was a few years ago and it was quite lovely, but a little impersonal. We ended up booking our reception out at The Richmond Club in Richmond and its costing us $70 a person. We are having the ceremony at St Johns Anglican out at Wilberforce. We are almost neighbours...lol..

Chapel Hill has equipment that is available for use (I believe at no additional charge), so you could bring your own music or an Ipod and patch it in. With regards to MC, I am sure you can think of a family member or close friend who could perform this role. You could then just buy them a small gift to say thanks - overall you can save.

The BYO option must save you money I would have thought - just means looking for specials and buying in advance with regards to wine, etc.

....Of course Cropley may be so much better, but as mentioned before have not been there so am unable to comment.

hehehehe my MOH showed me the site for the Richmond club today and we're also looking at St James Anglican (Church of England) in Pitt Town... have to wait a couple of weeks to enquire properly though as they are getting a new minister...

See, i dunno, I've been going over the finances and if we stick to the budget I've set up, come time for the wedding, we should have around $9k and we're also having a wishing well at our engagement party. A honeymoon registry for teh wedding so we might actually be able to do it.

I can book in to see Cropley House on Monday but we have an appointment with party planners then as well, not sure if I should talk DF into having a quick squizz before we head to the planners or not... Will figure that bit out though!

Party planners were a bust... Instead of mentioning our engagement party (which was why we were there) all he did was try and sell us one place to have our reception... Not impressed and a little ticked off...

So... Now I need to figure out stuff for an engagement party. I can work the wedding stuff out, but I really needed something in relation to hosting an engagement party - a rough price would have been good!! A couple of locations...
