I asked if this was normal, and was asked how long I had had the ring for: 12mths, 18mths? I told them a month, and it was their turn to look shocked. I was told that there was no such thing as white gold, and it was rhodium plated to make it look really shiny and silvery, and this wears over time. I was also told that my skin must react to it which makes it wear away even faster. So, I have now stopped wearing it to work, where I work with my hands a lot and use a cholorine-based sterilizer stuff, which I'm sure doesn't help, and will get it re-plated a few weeks before the wedding. But at work, I feel naked! I have a tan line from where it sits, and it just feels wrong! So after work, when I get home, the ring goes back on pretty much straight away! I don't know how I'm going to cope when it goes back in to get re-plated! How long does it usually take?

I've gotten my ring and DH's ring re-rodium plated a few times before (i do it every year or two).
It's the normal thing to do with white gold. The ring eventually turns into a light yellow gold so unless you get platinum it's going to tarnish over time (yellow gold also does this).
It shouldn't take more than a day or two to re-plate it... all they do is dip it, so it's not like they're sawing away or anything.
Once you get it back - you will be so happy with the results!
