We gave MIL her invitation to our engagement party last night...

She said that we are only supposed to invite our immediate family...

I know I havent been to to many E parties but i have worked at a few and they all had heaps of people there.... Family and friends..

lol i had 120 ppl at my e-party and spend 10,000!!!! i think maybe times have changed...

Really we are having about 70 people and we are spending about $2000

She thinks this is the way it has always been...

hmm the thing is that its totally u and ur FH's choice... if u wanna spend 20,000 and have a masquerade ball you should be able to... after all its your party celebrating your engagement and it should be done in what ever way you like!

I wouldn't worry too much DB...maybe it just was that way in her day or she really wants you to save money for the wedding.....I'm sure she means well and there was no malice or criticism intended. Hey she will probably be the one who will have the best time at your E Party!!!!

I think times have changed - the old ettiquete for some stuff is gone.

I didn't even have an engagement party - and only had 20 at my wedding, lol!

I've been to huge engagement parties. Usally they are bigger than the wedding cahe use they invite the ppl they couldn't invite to the wedding for one reason or another.

We had about 120 at our e-party and our wedding will be around 160-170. I don't think 70 is a lot of people and e-party's tend to always be less formal then a wedding. However in saying that, my cousins engagement was more formal then her wedding, so do what makes you fell good.
