Name Changes

So I started this process today.

OMG was I pissed off or what????

I don't know what's happening in other states, but in the ACT, it turns out that the marriage certificate you are given on the day isn't good enough for a whole bunch of stuff, like my workplace (Defence) or to change your name on your driver's licence. I had to go and pay more money for some other version at Births, Deaths and Marriages. What a rort!!!

Anyhoo... I've done about 5 things but my list is about 30 organisations long, and that was only a rough draft. I think there will be others I've forgotten.

I can't wait til this crap is done!!!

It sucks huh.. All I have left to do is Medicare and Passport. Oh and the house deed... But I did all my stuff with the cert from the celebrant.. The ones that are left need the offical one.

Medicare needs that other one does it?

I think the whole thing is a crock! Personally I think that the legal fees you pay (celebrant, notice of intended marriage etc) ought to cover the official certificate. I dont' mind paying, but I think it should have been paid/included already, and sent to me as soon as it was ready!

Sorry girls, I really get on my high horse when something irritates me!

Speaking of medicare, it looks like a nightmare. The form I have is just to change my name. But we want to do more than that - we want to remove Kenneth's ex wife from his card, ad me with my new name, and get a duplicate.

Basically we each want a card with both of us and both kids on it, so that its easier in the long run. As it stands, I can't even go fill a script for my husband or stepsons, as I don't have their medicare cards.

same here in NSW.... it stinks.
Registry of Births Deaths and Marriages is a rort, i agree.
what you should do is get a whole bundle of copies of them... and get a JP to sign them and certify they are true copies, and keep them handy for when you need to give them to an organisation.

It is also the same over in NSW but I can kinda understand why.. (DONT SHOOT ME) haha!! I work for Centrelink ( ok dont shoot me again!) and the names that are written on the certificates from ceremonies dont have to be legal names, well they are supposed to be but half the time they arent... going from what customers show me at work! So the BDM's one is the official document that can be used for ID and other purposes.. its just that way for uniformity!

Father Tony told us that the certificate we get on the day is a 'commemorative one' the celebrant registers all your details with births deaths and marriages and then our fee includes a copy of the official doc being sent to us when ready. I think it's the same in all states blossy! It happens when you have babies too - the hospital gave us a 'birth certificate' but only a BD&M official document will do in most cases.

Maybe you could start a thread on all the places you need to change your name - there are so many I don't think I'd even know where to begin????
