Thanks girls! That’s pretty much how I’m feeling, but needed a bit of external validation that I wasn’t being mad :)
I think sometimes money/budget issues can be a touchy subject, on the ‘other forum’ there was a lot of flaming re: expensive wedding items, for example another girl and I were discussing our engagement rings (both from the same jeweller) and this huuuuge drama sparked about how the site wasn’t a forum for people to ‘brag’ about how much money they could afford to spend on something so silly as a wedding ring – no joke, this was actually said. I should have realised this site is way to nice and relaxed for that sort of thing.
Jen, for flowers, I originally, had my heart set on Dave Austen roses and peonies, only to discover that peonies only flower in November (bugger!) and Dave Austens usually not in September. But my florist said she might be able to get them for me – if not, just big, blown, open roses. Our table displays will be lovely country garden, spring-timey flowers that look like they’ve just been picked – sweet peas, lissianthus, roses, hydrangeas, hyacinth, stephanotis, etc.

Totally agree!

One of my favourite memories of my day is when my flowers turned up! I remember looking at how perfect they were. I could not stop smelling them all day!! haha

But Catherine - if they are in your budget and you really want them, then DO IT!!!!

Anyone who flames you or judges you for buying what is important to you isn't worth listening to sweet pea!

Your wedding, your way I say!

And BTW - it sounds DIVINE.....I loooove pomanders - my FG's are having pomander balls!

Budget is a very touchy subject, but I don't think it should be! I had a huge budget, actually no budget at all really. But I could afford it. DH and I saved our butts off to pay for our wedding and accepted no hand outs from anyone.

I think if you can afford it, go for it!! It's unfortuante that some people are on a lower budget, but it's not your problem and you shouldn't be made to feel guilty for it.

the funny thing is I went to a wedding recently and it cost the coupld $6k and it was honestly one of the most beautiful weddings I have been to and I walked away thinking, you don't need a lot of money to make a beautiful day.

Catherine,

I say go for it if you can afford it! If it is what you want and its in your budget, why not? Like you said, you only have this day once! And you said flowers don't last, they don't but you can get some of them dried after the wedding so you can keep them and give them to people for gifts etc. Also, in regards to if you were to use like vases with candles or whatever really what are you going to do with 10 of those after the wedding anyway? I would love to be able to spend that much on flowers, and if had the $$ would go for it. Dont worry about what other people think or say! It is your day, not theirs

We all have 1 thing we dreamt of - a MUST HAVE........... for Jen is was the Horse & Carriage and for me it was the Royal Daimler & Church in the evening for you it is the flowers................... - Get your flowers honey!

One of the best weddings I have been to cost about $1500 - the groom got posted interstate with the army and they had 6 weeks and no cash to pay for a wedding.

I organised most of it as I was home with Emily and everyone else was working - they got married at a public garden, her dress was from Hiltons $180. I did the hair, makeup & photography and I was driving a white commodore at the time so my car was the wedding car, my sister bought flowers form the market in the morning and my Mum put the bouquets together. My sister was BM and her bestie was the MOH they bought their dresses for $60 from a second hand bridal shop but looked gorgeous

The reception was at the Grooms parents house and all the relatives were asked to bring a dish and the grooms Mum coordinated who brought what so we didn't get 20 potato salads - A few cartons of beer and a couple of casks of wine later and they had a ball and so did all of the guests! It's not about how much you spend it's about how much love is in the room!
