Grooms Handy Hints

Mmmm Beer! Now that I have got your attention, time to talk weddings! As the groom, you probably feel like you have done the hard part, and your next duty is to simply turn up at the wedding in what you have been told to wear! No matter what your beautiful future wife says, she wants more than this! She may tell you then she will take care of everything without your help... But wouldn’t it be nice to surprise her along the way?

Aarghh! The Dreaded Bridezilla!

Is your beautiful, serene fiancée slowly morphing into a two-headed monster? Don’t be scared of her! This is perfectly normal for the female. I bet you’re wondering what the big deal is... why does she blow up at every little thing? Well, dear groom, think of it this way... You have been thinking about your wedding for all of five minutes. You took the leap and asked her to be your wife... possibly picked a ring, and that is probably as far as you have thought. Your future wife has most likely been dreaming of this day since she was five years old and first threw a pillowcase over her head and played dress up as a bride. This is a HUGE deal for a woman and I think every male needs to be aware of this.

The reason why your fiancée is/will overreact to the smallest thing regarding wedding planning is very simple. Believe it or not, wedding planning is very stressful! There are SO many things to consider, and most brides have to work off a budget. Though which type of flower to include in the centrepieces may seem like a trivial issue to you, it will absolutely consume your bride to the point to which she will dream about it! Sounds silly I know, but it is true! This day needs to be perfect for us and we will go to great lengths to make it exactly how we want it.

Even if your fiancée has told you that she will take care of everything, she will occasionally throw is the odd “Babe, do you think we should have roses or lilies for the centrepieces?” To this, you should respond with what you actually think. We don’t want to hear any of the following:

-“I don’t know, you’re better at this than me”
-“I don’t care”
-“I like them both”
-“I thought you were going to organise it?”
-“What are lilies?”
-“Why do we need flowers?”
-“Why do we need centrepieces?”

As a groom, you should also be aware that even if you give an honest answer, it may be immediately vetoed. The most important thing is that you gave your honest opinion. Please don’t take it to heart – your bride did really want to hear your opinion... She just may not necessarily agree with it! For this, some common phrases you will need to learn are:

-“Yes dear”
-“You’re right, honey”
-“You’re so good at this!”
-“I feel exactly the same way”

Make Her Feel Good!

As you know by now, the planning process is pretty stressful for women... So why not make your future wife feel extra special during the planning process. The smallest things like bringing her home a bunch of flowers, a post-it note saying “I love you” or a cup of tea will make her feel fantastic! It’s nice to feel like you are being somewhat rewarded or acknowledged during this time.

If you have a day off work and she’s going to do wedding stuff, why not offer to accompany her? It may seem like the most boring way to spend your precious day off, but she will really appreciate it. You never know, you may have a blast!

Tell her she’s Beautiful...

I don’t mean every spare second of every day! Just slip it in here and there. The most important time to tell her this is in your speech at the wedding. I can’t tell you how many men forget to say this in their speech! It is so important to tell you new bride that she looks radiant on your wedding day in front of everyone. If you’re lucky, you may even get an “Awwwww” from the crowd!

Sit back, relax and enjoy the (albeit bumpy) ride! At the end of the day you will have fun and life will go back to normal the day you make an honest woman out of your bride! Remember to learn the phrases and make her feel special. She only has eyes for you, and she will do everything to make your day perfect for the both of you. Congratulations and GOOD LUCK!!
