Kylie's Diary Entry #1
Brad and I have been engaged almost 2 years. But have only been planning our wedding for the last year. I guess the best place to start is at the beginning, setting the date.
I didn’t want a long engagement so Brad and I decided to get married in 2009. I was at mum’s house one day talking about dates that I would have liked to get married on. The first date I had in mind was the 24th March (my mum and dad’s wedding anniversary – my Dad died when I was 9 so to get married on their wedding day would have been really special to me) but that wasn’t going to be on a Saturday for a few years so I scratched that date. The second date was the 25th July but then I got to thinking it would be cold and what if it rained. Then my mum said what about the 14th November, I checked to see if it was on a Saturday and it was. So that is how we set our date.
After the date was set, I went about finding my wedding dress. The first time I went to try on dresses I went with my Mum and my little brother. We went to Spurling on Payneham Rd and I tried on 2 dresses and didn’t really feel anything.
We then went to Jenny & Gerry’s and I tried on a few more dresses. There was one that I liked but wasn’t really sure. So we left and kept on looking. The third shop (which I will not name) we went to I was not impressed with the service I received at all. The lady wouldn’t even let me try on the dress as it wasn’t the right size, she held the dress up against me and I looked at myself in the mirror. I didn’t even bother looking at any other dresses and told my mum that I wanted to leave. We then went to Lady Liz, where I found a dress I really liked. I liked the way it sat and looked. I went away thinking that, that dress was the ‘The One’ but didn’t have the money to put a deposit down.
Luckily I did not order that dress as later on in the year I was watching McLeod’s Daughters the episode of Stevie and Alex’s wedding and absolutely fell in love with her dress. I remembered the dress at Jenny & Gerry’s that was very similar and rang them and asked that if I ordered that dress could I change it to look like the one off McLeod’s Daughters. It was then that the lady mentioned to me that they have the dress that Stevie’s was made from. So that day I went down to Jenny & Gerry’s to try on the dress. On the way down there my heart was racing as I was so excited. Once I had the dress on and I was standing in front of the mirror I knew that this dress was ‘The One’, I broke out in a heat rash and couldn’t stop smiling. Kylie xx
