I just got engaged – what do I do now?
After the man of your dreams proposes, the first question on a newly engaged woman’s lips is; ‘what now’?
Even if you have been planning your big day for ages, (if you are like me that would have been from the time you first saw a wedding dress), most brides don’t really know where to start.
Planning your wedding can be quite stressful, but one thing you have to be is prepared.
A list of things to come;
Be prepared to get minimal feedback from your fiancé
Be prepared to find out your dream venue has been booked out for the next three years
Be prepared to be bombarded with wedding tips and advice from your mum or close relative to your corner store husband’s wife
Be prepared to try lots of food/cake samples (YUM!!)
Be prepared to get frustrated with your bridesmaids at one time or another
Be prepared to be called a bridezilla (even if you are not normally irrational)
Be prepared to get VERY confused when you start looking for a dress
Finding your perfect wedding gown can be quite difficult…you may have an idea in mind, but so will your mum, your sister, your aunt, your grandma, your maid of honour, your bridesmaids and all of your friends.
The first time you try on a gown can be very exciting, so you may feel like you have to go with a whole bunch of your friends. But, this can sometimes result in very conflicting ideas and opinions which could leave you very confused.
For some people, it is best to go to try on gowns by yourself first (or with one very trusty friend) as the first time can be the most overwhelming.
Try to stay true to your personal style, and look for a gown that will enhance and flatter your best features. Then think about the location you would like to have your wedding, the season (will it be hot or cold?) and your theme. Or, you can choose a gown first and work the theme around that – after all, you and your gown are the centre of attention (oh and your fiancé of course!)
